Side note: Keep in mind this is all for fun. If you want to email us and get all pissy about how we aren't "honoring" the real pioneers or talking enough about the history of punk or genuflecting to your idols and you want to school us on what the scene was like back then and make us feel like we are doing a disservice to punk rock lore by not including this band or that band and how we are forgetting that you singlehandedly saved the world from the bourgeios status quo because you were immersed in the 70's punk rock scene or whatever and how it is our responsibility to preserve your history and your ideals, well, as the most punk rock robot in the world would say:

Remember: we aren't making this list. You are. If you have any comments about how we forgot something, don't get all fucked up about it and point fingers at us. We gave you the oppurtuntity to chime in. If you just didn't bother, not our problem. And if you have the time to send an email complaining to us, you had the time to leave a comment with your albums. Pretty simple.

anything you guys want to put on here, get it on here now. As we have said before and will say to the end, this is not about us or anything like that.

This is about you and you having fun.

That's what punk rock is all about.

--------------

i like the Specials, but that ain't no punk rekkid!

The first Vibrators LP, Pure Mania, should be on there. First Saints LP, too.

--------------

Crossing the Red Sea With The Adverts and the first Undertones Lp, too.

--------------

forgot the avengers too

--------------

Still, that's a pretty damn fine list. If you gave all those records to a favorite niece or nephew for Xmas, you'd change their lives!

--------------

crime from san francisco. Their first one

--------------

well coop, wait for the vote for the 70's to be over.

then when we do the 80's hold on. that's where I get to come in!

You got the 90's covered I'm sure

ps. I always loved your work

--------------

Did the Avengers or Crime put out full LPs back then?

--------------

gah

that was me who said that

--------------

avengers had one with the girl singer looking in a mirror on the cover. Crime had one with them all on the cover with outfits on.

Once again. I'm 80's so thats hard for me to remember. But I know the avengers had one with "we are the one" on it.

--------------

The 90's? Ugh. No good punk after 1984, IMHO.

--------------

I'm pretty sure those were both comps released afterwards. I think both bands only released 45's back in the day. I have been kinown to be wrong before, though.

--------------

well didnt you do a shitload of covers for bands like electric frankenstein?

i mean fuck dude. Two girls i know have that "how to make a monster" tattoo down their sides

that's a pretty cool compliement to your work

--------------

im not sure if they were comps. i really think the avengers was a full length

crime, i dont know about one

but i think that avengers was a full length

hm

ive been wrong before too

welcome to FTTW

where turtle is almost always wrong

--------------

The Fall, Live At The Witch Trials, '79.

The first Birthday Party LP came out in Australia in '79, here in 1980.

--------------

when was radio birdman?

--------------

Just Googled it. Avengers LP was released in '79.

Crime's San Francisco's Doomed in 1992, so we're both wrong, or both right.

--------------

Oh fuck yeah, Radios Appear was '77. That fucking better be on the list. I was just listening to that one yesterday. A most rocking LP.

--------------

slaughter and the dogs

were they 80s?

gah

im so bad with this time frame

--------------

Slaughter & The Dogs released lots of singles during the 70's, but I don't know about an LP. First 999 LP was '79.

--------------

Crime's San Francisco's Doomed in 1992, so we're both wrong, or both right.

it kinda of works that way here.

but i do agree with you that alot of it turned to shit after hmmmmm the 80's.

i mean alot of great bands came out. IMHO the last of it was pretty much DI and southern california bands.

after that it was a remanufactured stuff

everyonce in awhile a band like snfu would come out, but it was pretty much done

--------------

"Do It Dog Style" was '78.

--------------

I just used their cover of "Quick Joey Small" on a mix CD.

--------------

well, i dont even think slaughter and the dogs will rate that high. Ive been in this my whole life and only heard of them when i saw them at holidays in the sun. I had to be schooled on who they were. But that where are all the boot boys gone song fucking rocks

--------------

gbh has to be the 80s

like 81

see coop, we are gonna be alot better in the 80's. This is hard to think of. This wasn't my scene.

hm

who else

hm

i think we have it all. if anyone wants to add something like blondie, go for it, but i got mine in.

wait till the 80's. that will get ugly. or sad. who knows.

--------------

There were a ton of British punk bands from 78-83 who only put out a few singles that were amazing. I found most of that stuff when it was rereleased on CD (the Cherry Red punk singles comps) in the early 90's.

--------------

well se, this becomes the problem. you and i have heard most of this tuff before, but they aren't really called an album.

Or are they?

this is the tough part of this and why we always have to say this isnt our list, this is yours.

put them on their. we don't care. after the big punk rock list was done i sat and thought "shit, you guys missed this???" but its what happens.

im sure it will happen in the 80's and the 90's and 00's. I think we are evn thinking of lifting the green day and blink 182 band. Which if that happens, i'll be at del taco shaking my head at the new generation of punk

--------------

lifting the green day and blink 182 band.

lifting the ban

not band

sorry

--------------

Well I doubt we'll care about our little punk rock lists when we're all dying from the Bird Flu...

--------------

well michele wants the bird flu to come so she can become a zombie and have an excuse to listen to rob zombie for the rest of her undead life.

i don't think thats a good enough reason to listen to rob zombie thou

but that's just my opinon

--------------

Dude, I didn't say I'd listen to Rob Zombie the rest of my undead life. I just said I'd be listening to White Zombie when I did my little stage dive into the crowd of zombies in order to become one of them.

Everyone knows the undead listen to Type O Negative.

--------------

Allmusic.com says the Avengers album wasn't released until 1983. They had 3 EPs before then.

--------------

By the way Coop, Radio Birdman got back together. They are releasing an album I think this month.

--------------

In 1979, Dangerhouse Records came out with "Yes L.A.," a one-sided disc featuring cuts by some of the early and influential L.A. punk bands like X, the Germs, The Bags, Black Randy, etc. It isn't a great album, but from a historical perspective it's an amazing artifact.

So, I'll nominate:

"Yes L.A.," Various Artists (Dangerhouse Records, 1979)

All six tracks available, so have a listen.

My fave tracks, "We Don't Need No English," by the Bags, and of course "Los Angeles," by X.

AC

P.S. - "The Clash - The Clash" and "The Clash - 77" are one in the same, no? The first Clash album was the '77 album, released in both UK and US versions. (The U.S. version has "Clash City Rockers" and "Complete Control" instead of "Janie Jones" and some other cut I can't think of at the moment.)

--------------

Yea, I'm just copying and pasting from the comments. I'll fix that.

--------------

The Tubes - The Tubes
The Tubes - Young and Rich
The Tubes - Remote Control
Blondie - Blondie
Nick Lowe - Jesus of Cool/Pure Pop for Now People
Nick Lowe - Labour of Lust (Hey if Elvis Costello's on the list, then Nick Lowe needs to be here.)
Dave Edmunds - Rockpile (See Nick Lowe)

--------------

Oh! Oh!
The Crack by The Ruts

And the US version of the First Clash album has Clash City Rockers, In Hammersmith Palais, and Complete Control in place of 24 Hours, Protex Blue and something with the word Cheat in it.

--------------

i reserve the right to check the fuck out if you lift the blink342 and groan day ban...

--------------

thats the tough part about 2000 kali. I have no idea who is out there now. If there are great bands, great albums, we need to know.

but yeah. the ban will still be in place.

--------------

Is Danko Jones considered punk? I like those guys.

--------------

For the 2000's that is, not the 70s. Doh

--------------

If the Cure can be punk, Green Day can definetly be punk.
