while we are out....
by Michele Christopher

We at FTTW try to put out as much as we can. As many stories as we can write. Today, my better half wasn't and still isn't doing too good. Hence my writing all alone today. She made it pretty far before til she just needed to sleep. I want to just tell you all that Michele is the bestest person there is and I hope she feels better soon.

In the meantime, this is what she was working on while I was napping. I hope you guys realize that she is an awesome person. She puts a lot into this site and kept writing when she was going down. Cause well, thats what the Michele does. Wish her well cause she's gonna be back tomorrow like a tiger on cocaine. Enjoy what she was finishing before I woke up. It was done but she never published it, waiting for me. See dude, that's how fucking cool she is. Feel better Michele. Cause this site is nothing, and I am nothing, without you. You make this site, baby.

Wanna read it?

Ready?

Here we go!

*And I love you Michele. You fucking rule.* -T

Hey, we're kinda busy watching World Cup today. We'll talk about the England game later, and some other stuff as well.

We're thinking of doing another list - the most offensive punk songs. Offensive to everyone else, of course. Not you. So if you got something for that list, put it down in the comments, please.

Back with more World Cup stuff and cars and punk rock lists and whatnot late this afternoon.

In the meantime, enjoy some of The Business's football songs

England 5 - Germany 1
Southgage (Euro 96)
Viva Bobby Moore
Maradona

(These can all be found on the album Hardcore Hooligan, which I highly recommend you purchase)

Now start thinking offensive lyrics. -M

Update: I just wanted to add to this that another list we are working on (in adddition to finishing up the 100 songs this week) is punk cover songs - meaning punk bands covering mainstream rock songs/punk bands covering other punk bands. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes don't count. As always, your input is wanted.

And yea, the turtle rules.

We'll stop now. I swear. -M

Dude, you rule.

I love you.

SOD mostly anything.

--------------

Dr Knows "Fist Fuck" is pretty offensive. A lot of the stuff Sloppy Seconds did is offensive. Code Blue already made the punk 100, but it's offensive. Black Flag's "Slip it in".

punk cover songs- Agent Orange did some good cover songs. Miserlou, Pipeline, On a Plain, Somebody to Love. "Wendy" by the Descendents. More Sloppy Seconds, they did covers of "The Candy Man", "Leavin on a Jet Plane", "Vacation".

Turning it around a wee bit, Therapy? did a great version of Husker Du's "Diane", "Where Eagles Dare", "Invisible Sun", "With or Without You", "Isolation", "Gimme Danger", " Gimme Shock Treatment" and "Gimme Gimme Gimme a Man After MIdnight". Well i got lost on a tangent there. Therapy? is a weird band, with punk roots but calling them an actual punk band might be a stretch.

Um.. lessee Husker Du did "8 miles high", X did "Wild Thing", "Breathless" and "Soul Kitchen", as well as "Dancing with Tears in my Eyes", which wasn't a pop song. The Replacements did "Black Diamond" by Kiss, Mad Parade did "One Tine Soldier" and "Mother's Little Helper". The Damned did "White Rabbit" and wasn't "Alone Again, Or" a cover? The Toy Dolls did "Wipeout" um oh yeah Therapy? also did a great version of "Breakin the Law".
ok i'm totally out of control. It's someone else's turn now.

--------------

bitch snagged wendy... cut it out pril.

--------------

Whoa, Husker Du did Dancing With Tears in My Eyes? That's my favorite Ultravox song.

Alone Again Or (my favorite Damned song) is a cover, the original band was Love.

I was just listening to Angry Samoans do Somebody to Love. It rules.

--------------

you could do a whole post on who covered kick out the jams.

also what punk band didn't cover louie, louie?

--------------

i forgot about fist fuck

"Straight up your ass! Fist fuck!"

--------------

michele, X did Dancing with Tears in My Eyes, and it wasn't the Ultravox one. I'm trying to find out who it was first. (it was someone named Joe Burke).

I almost forgot, for covers, two of the bands that turned me into a cover freak- Killdozer and Clawhammer. Are they punk? I don't know, but you have to admire Clawhammer for covering the entire "Are We Not Men, We Are Devo" album. Killdozer did fantastic versions of "Sweet Home Alabama", "Hush", "Unbelievable", "Cinnamon Girl" and "Take the money and run".

--------------

7 seconds, 99 red balloons.

ok really i'm done. If i think of more, i'll wait a while. i need to do something today besides rummage around in my head for this stuff.

--------------

No, don't stop!

--------------

Pansy Brigade (damn, i think it was them) did a version of "Folsom Prison Blues" and i think Social Distortion covered "ring of fire" but don't quote me on that. I have a tape somewhere of covers done by punk bands, and now i'm going to have to go into the garage and find it. aarrgh. Oh wait! The Meatmen! They did their very own version of that "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", except i think it waent something like... "in the bathroom the mighty bathroom the toilet leaks tonight"...L7- punk or grunge, at this point, does it matter? They took GnRs Used to Love Her and made it great.

--------------

*sigh* APPLE did "Kids in America"

--------------

I love Social D's cover of Ring of Fire. And Meatmen do a real funny version of The Smiths' How Soon is Now.

--------------

alright alright, i'm descending into the garage, with the biting red ants and the horrifying spiders. If i never post here again, tell Laura i love her.

--------------

Kid Dynamite gives new life to Rise Above by Black Flag.

For the punk songs lists, Today's Lesson by Filth.

--------------

"morrisey must die" by the meatmen

--------------

"One down three to go" about the beatles by the meatmen

"Tooling for anus" by the meatmen

and anything by the mentors

--------------

for covers

hellacopters did "working for MCA" on an EP that just kicked ass

--------------

Killdozer, good call. Not sure if they're punk, like you said, but they also did an awesome version of 'Nasty Boys'. In the not sure if they're punk list, Buttholes did a good version of Sweat Leaf, called Sweat Loaf (I think, hard to remember now..)

Include me on the list of folks who love Social D's version of Ring of Fire, that's probably my fav.

Mudhoney did a good version of 'Hate the Police'...

As far as 'offensive', I'd have to go with 'I Saw Your Mommy'

--------------

i *never*, in a million years, would have tagged Sweatloaf as a cover of Sweet Leaf. Good god, y'all. and by the way, if you see your mom this weekend, tell her "satan".

the mentors. lol. some funny shit. GG Allin, totally offensive, as well. You can't pick just one song by that guy.

--------------

ok it was Pansy Division not Pansy Brigade, and i am still looking for that tape.

--------------

The version of Folsom Prison that was thinking was by Christ on a Crutch, not the pansy dudes.

--------------

re: Sweetloaf: Maybe it is better to call it cover-ish? Heh. Heh.

The Mentors, ha ha cool, I have not heard about them in a long time. I used to love those guys. I used to like that song, 'My Woman from Sodom...' Classic.

I guess 'Last Caress' from the Misfits could also make the offensive list. My Wife hates that one... ;)

--------------

if you're going with last caress, bullit gets pretty offensive for some.

--------------

Oh yea, i wrote about that in the top 100. How could i forget?

--------------

ok here we go with covers.
clutch does cross eyed mary by jethro tull
hank III does we bite
nashville pussy does highway to hell
metalica does queen's stone cold crazy
ramones - spiderman
soundgarden - into the void
ramones - have you ever seen the rain
circle jerks fortunate son
motorhead does metalica's 'one'
children of bodom do we're not gonna take it by twisted sister

i know some of these are stretched for category, but they're all good.

p.s. fist fuck is awesomely offensive!!!

--------------

Where to start? Dropkick Murphys do a good 'Billy's Bones' from the Pogues, and 'cadence to arms' is great as well. Bagpipes with punk rock makes great stuff. Circle Jerks 'Put a little love in your heart', Pennywise 'Stand By Me'. Minor Threat hacked through 'Steppin Stone', don't know that Eagles of Death Metal qualify for punk, but their cover of 'Stuck in the Middle With You' is pretty damned fun.

--------------

That version of Steppin Stone has to be one of the worst covers ever. But hey, it's Minor Threat, so I'll include it.

--------------

Sex Pistols doing Johnny B Goode / Road-Runner is pretty entertaining...

--------------

Circle Jerks had that weird medley on Golden Showers and i just remember they crammed in "Havin my Baby". That rocks.

--------------

Yeah - Steppin Stone was pretty poor, but you didn't ask for GOOD covers. But I guess by you disqualifying the Gimme Gimmes from the running, that was implied.
