Ticket Prices at ball games

I had the pleasure of attending a baseball game at Fenway Park last night. Other than the fact that The Sox lost to Detroit, it was a lot of fun.

Here is a quick break-down of what it costs to go see a game at Fenway:
Ticket - $30 - The actual game ticket cost was not that bad. I sat in the grandstands, which is the Fenway equivalent of the cheap seats. For those unfamiliar with Fenway, these are the really small, wooden seats that face the wrong way. You basically face right field and spend the night craning your neck to see home plate. These seats are VERY small. Pray you don't have somebody with really bad hygiene problems next to you when you sit in these seats.

Parking $25 - This was actually the 'cheap' parking because I drove around to find the cheapest I could that was not super far away from the park.

Beer: Dude. Beer was 7.00 each. SEVEN FUCKING BUCKS FOR A SINGLE BEER. And we're talking Miller Lite here, not Sam Adams.

Dogs: Ok I paid like 6 bucks and change for a hot dog, but it was not just any hotdog, it was a Rem-Dawg (after former Sox player, now TV announcer, Jerry Remy). It was the biggest fucking hot-dog I had ever seen.

Peanuts: A bag of peanuts was 4:50.

Basically I left the house with $100 in my pocket and after getting the ticket, parking the car, having a few beers, a hot-dog and some peanuts, returned home with about 3 bucks and some change.

I am admittedly cheap, but this seems somewhat insane to me. I love going to games at Fenway but geez. If I had brought the family this would have been like a $500 ball game.

That cost, driven by greed and overpaid whiners in uniform is exactly the reason that I support minor league baseball with my dollars. We have a rookie league team here, the Ogden Raptors and I can take the spouse and myself to 5 games, including the beer, peanuts, dogs and seats 6 rows above the dugouts for that hundred dollar bill you killed at Fenway. Our season starts in about 2 weeks and I can't wait!

Dude, I feel your pain. I took the boy to his first baseball game a couple of weekends ago (Phillies versus the Marlins). A friend of mine paid for the tickets, but only under auspices that she could steal the baby when the game got boring and take him down to the playground on one of the lower levels.

I left the house with eighty bucks in my pocket and after buying a few rounds of beer for myself and her husband, a couple of hot dogs and a hat for the kid, I was ready to tap the ATM again.

Good thing the ball park's only ten blocks from the house. I don't want to think about what parking would've cost me.

Nate - I am fully with you on the minor league thing. But, all that aside, I still love the Sox and there's nothing like seeing them play at Fenway. So yah, they've got me.
