If you're a fan of Harry Potter, you'll like it. If you're not, you won't.
The problem with this one is the same problem as the book. After you sort out all the action and everything that's happened, the story really hasn't moved all that much. That can piss you off when you realize that it's the longest book in the series that we've seen. The story doesn't really move...it just adds some possible revelations for later
The movie adaptation does a good job of consolidating everything from the book into a coherent story. Details are skipped or glossed over which, in this case, works.
I loved the character of Delores Umbridge played by Imelda Stauton. She is, to me, one of the creepiest characters in the whole series. Sticky sweet. Self-righteous. A true believer for whom "the ends justify the means" is imbeded into her character. I don't think anyone in a film has creeped me out quite that much in a long time. Nothing's scarier to me that someone who believes that their way is the only right way especially when all evidence points away from that belief. (For any of you who have read my rants, yes, I do appreciate the irony as much as you do.) She's sort of like a far right winger or left winger who's so completely blinded by what she believes that she no longer has any touch with reality what so ever.
The kids in the movie are all growing up. And it's great to watch if you're a fan. They're getting better at their acting craft as they're getting better at their witchcraft. Not a far stretch when you think about it. I especially think Daniel Radcliffe will be around for a very long time.
Luna Lovegood, played by Evanna Lynch is a complete delight. I love weird, not sure of their sanity, characters. (Duh.)
I just realized...the ghosts were missing. I mean they weren't there at all. No Nearly Headless Nick. No Moaning Myrtle. I'd have to read the book again...which...sorry...too long and I've just seen the movie...but I don't recall any of the books where the ghosts weren't present at Hogwarts. Any Potter-heads remember?
